very good as always. Interesting to see you arrive at very similar conclusions about interp

I would say keep working with the door open!

I think it's totally fine to have very little ideas (mainly being a good discriminator). It doesn't mean you won't have good ones in the future, it only means you prune faster. We're mainly lacking good ideas in AI safety anyway, not ideas period.

and transluce sounds like a really good org for that.

do u ever feel a tension between growing more principled urself (hi fellow type 4) while staying sensitive enough to Human Emotions to help u achieve “help ppl better express or understand themselves”? :0

happy new year vincent!! it’s inspiring to see all the ways in which uve grown this past year :)

hm i think being principled is not about feeling differently but more about deciding how you'll react to feelings, eg. feel sad -> act self-destructively or do something else

but this year i realized everything they told me ended up being incorrect anyway, so i guess now i finally understand: you can’t wait for someone else to change your life, even if you’re surrounded by the best people ever. it doesn’t matter how good your taste in mentors is because even the most incredible person does not have enough information to know what your future should look like. your life is beyond the reach of prophetic instruction >> soooooooooooo so relatable and true.

happy new year, loved reading :)

cool post; i hadn’t thought of billie’s evolution through that lens

i just don’t think these problems can be solved with tech? optimism and despair and self understanding and curation of vibes are fundamentally not tech issues but human issues, which remain the same at their core whether it’s ancient greece or a post agi socialist utopia. so imo the shift away from technical solutions represents a realism lol and being more in touch w other, more human ways of seeing the world, like art and short stories as you’ve written about

hm perhaps but i'm generally skeptical of "X can't be solved with tech" claims. i kind of think it's a skill issue haha like either the tech isn't good enough yet or we haven't designed the right way to interact with it
