i just don't believe this anymore » hmm i do think twitter and related platforms have changed the landscape significantly? like at this point i've seen small-ish friend accounts share work that goes very viral enough times that i think it simply cannot be that difficult to achieve this outcome. there are some hidden assumptions here eg. that you are putting some effort into sharing work and that your audience exists in the place you are sharing

the houses didn’t all look the same » i've always associated this with newer developments and HOAs as opposed to a suburb thing, but maybe i'm just showing my east coast bias here. especially in neighborhoods where houses weren't all built by a single developer (i presume more common in the east than west) i never grew up with the perception of monotonous suburbs until i learned about modern HOAs. i can also think of areas of cities where all the houses look the same, like a row of brownstones in brooklyn, or say becaon st in back bay
