“most people don’t need reminders that agency is a good trait to possess because they already know that; instead they need tools and frameworks to help them understand what is actually holding them back” +++, i think it would be cool to normalize (in circles where “agency” is thrown around casually) sharing anecdotes around gaining confidence/optimism starting from real moments when they weren’t, from the ugly to the smooth

have you noticed how different people are? How can machine learning be "controlled" or "perfect" with so many different people out there. Why do we have so many programming languages. Why are we moving so fast? Is it just to have a specific number of dollars before death. IF everything is equal and opposite, then who is forcing you to move so fast and have to resort to "agency" and ideas like these. Just live life. I can tell you the answer to these questions with one idea...

>i have some weird image self-sabotage going on where i’m only comfortable presenting as much less confident or competent than i actually am, i guess because of some superstition about jinxing / the world coming after people who declare themselves too boldly, which is just stupid?

right there with you - one blocker I have with speaking out more frequently or confidently is the belief that some number of people from 1 to a million will come along and pick me apart for the crime of daring to be visible. it’s probably because we’ve all been part of the mob at times

totally killing the mood but i feel compelled to point out

this is literally the process of discovering antimemetics (scp-3125) 😭

I can’t believe I missed your first social event

“there’s a real oppression that comes from believing your dreams can’t come true.” beautiful & relatable, this piece was so empathetic WITHOUT HAVING A DROP OF COPE and I am lighter for having read it 🫶

What advice would you give to someone trying to be more agentic (or just trying to do the things that they know they have potential for) but is stuck in structural block no man land of toxic shame/self criticism? I really relate to what you’re saying about asset mismanagement and shooting down ideas before they start

hmm not sure.. some thoughts:

- notice when you're happy and lean into it

- work with people who don't have this issue, talk to them when you have doubts, etc

- try new activities that take you out of your head (eg. physical stuff, art, idk?)

"my mind went into overdrive trying to calculate exactly what would happen before any of it happened"

me trying to learn a new skill in diving class -- i knew i would eventually end up in the water but i had to stop worrying so much about how i was going to get there and just "ready set go!" i.e. hurl myself off the board :D

imagine wearing a matter bending suit. You can walk threw walls, you can travel using E and M. You simply go "invisible". Let me teach you how to build one. It's actually simple.
